Approvals and dissent
Some decisions need sign-off. Approvals record who agreed, who didn't, and any reservations, as a permanent part of the decision.
Who can approve
Only approvers and admins can approve or reject. On each decision, its owner, an approver or an admin decides who should:
- No approvers assigned: any approver or admin can approve or reject it.
- Approvers assigned: only they can, plus admins. Assign people by name, or a whole group: anyone in the group counts.
Assigned approvers are notified. The approvers can't be changed once a decision has been approved or rejected.
Awaiting my approval, on the dashboard and in the decisions list, shows the pending decisions your vote can still change: those assigned to you by name that you haven't approved, and those assigned to a group of yours that nobody in the group has approved yet.
One approval, or all of them
With approvers assigned, choose how the decision is settled:
- Any approver: the first approval approves it.
- All approvers: it stays Pending approval until everyone assigned by name has approved, and someone from each assigned group. If someone changes their vote, their latest one counts.
In either case, a single rejection rejects the decision.
Approving and rejecting
When a decision is ready for sign-off, move it to Pending approval. Approvers then use Approve or Reject, with an optional comment. Two options put a view on record without changing the outcome:
- Approve with reservation: you approve, but note a concern. The decision is approved; your reservation stays visible in its history.
- Formal objection: when rejecting, mark it as an objection, as opposed to a routine "not yet".
Every vote, comment, reservation and objection appears in the decision's timeline.
After approval
An approved decision is final: its title, summary and options can no longer be edited, so the record stays what people agreed to. To change it, create a decision that supersedes it. See Frozen decisions and superseding.
