Options considered

A good decision record shows not just what was chosen, but what else was on the table and why it lost. Options considered on each decision keeps that list.

Adding options

Choose Add option in Options considered, and give the option a name and, optionally, a one-line rationale. You can also turn a post into an option with Add as option from the post's menu: the option is prefilled from the post and links back to it, so the reasoning stays traceable.

Status

Each option is:

• Under consideration while it's still open,
• Chosen for the one that was picked, or
• Rejected for the ones that weren't.

Who can

Contributors, approvers and admins can add, edit and remove options until the decision is approved. From then on the options are frozen along with the title and summary: see Frozen decisions and superseding. Readers can see them.
